New plans have been revealed by the Home Office in relation to a post-Brexit settlement scheme for EU citizens that want to remain in the UK. Officials from the Home Office have stated that there will be a fast-track registration process in place that will enable applications to get a decision within days rather than having to wait for up to six months to find out whether their application has been successful.
Brexit has caused widespread panic amongst EU citizens in the UK, with many concerned about whether they will be allowed to remain in the UK. The application process normally takes months, which would have left many in limbo for long periods of time. However, with the fast-track process that the Home Office is putting into place, applicants won’t be left waiting around to get a decision.
A streamlined application process
The Home Office also revealed that the application process would be streamlined to make it much quicker and simpler, which will prove to be a major benefit for many. In addition, these applications are more likely to be accepted rather than rejected, which comes as further good news for those that were worried about whether they would be able to remain in the UK.
As part of the application process, EU citizens looking to remain in the UK will need to provide a range of documentation. This includes proof of their identity and their address. They must also prove that they do not have any convictions.
According to the Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, the new scheme is aimed at honouring the right of those who already live in the UK and are making valuable contributions in a variety of ways. He added that the Home Office was keen to make it as simple and stress-free as possible for those that wished to remain here.
